From Passion to Purpose: How a Babywearing Training Changed My Life
When I first started babywearing, it was purely out of necessity.
I had a baby who needed to be close, a body that was still healing, and a million things to do. Babywearing was my lifeline—my way to move through the day, both literally and emotionally.
Like many new parents, I started with what I could find online. YouTube tutorials, Facebook groups, quick tips from friends. I learned the basics—how to get baby in safely, how to adjust this buckle, how to try that carry. And for a while, that was enough.
But something inside me kept whispering, There’s more here.
I didn’t quite know what I meant at the time. Just that babywearing felt bigger than just gear and technique. There was something about the way it made me feel—capable, connected, grounded. Something about the way my baby melted into me. Something about how my whole nervous system shifted when I wrapped him to my chest.
And that’s when I found the Center for Babywearing Studies.
At first, I signed up for the Newborn Babywearing course just to learn more. I wasn’t planning to start a business or teach classes. I just wanted to understand the “why” behind what I was doing—and what else might be possible through this beautiful, intuitive, sometimes tricky-to-learn practice.
What I got was so much more than information.
I got language for what I had only felt intuitively.
I got tools to support other caregivers with compassion and clarity.
I got a deeper connection to my baby, my body, and my own voice.
Through this training, I began to see babywearing not just as a parenting hack—but as a transformational practice. A way to support physical development. A way to nurture mental health. A way to foster confidence, healing, and even joy in new parents.
Since completing that first course, I’ve gone on to take every training CBWS offers. And eventually, yes—I did build a business around it. But more than that, I built community.
I’ve helped hundreds of parents in my town and online feel more confident holding their babies close.
I’ve supported moms in tears who thought they’d never “get it.”
I’ve witnessed new fathers light up when they realize they can soothe their baby just by wearing them.
And I’ve watched myself grow from a sleep-deprived mom who “just loved babywearing” into someone who teaches, mentors, and advocates—with purpose.
I now work for CBWS—because I believe in these trainings so much. But I would recommend them even if I didn’t. (Seriously, if they fired me tomorrow, I’d still be pointing people to their courses.)
If you’ve ever felt like babywearing opened something up for you—like it helped you understand your baby, or yourself, in a new way—I hope you’ll consider this your invitation to explore it more deeply.
Whether you want to teach, support other parents, or just deepen your own practice, the Foundations in Babywearing Education course is where I’d begin.
